Sam plummeted/fell/crashed to the ground with a loud/sharp/painful thud/sound/crash.

A New Friend
Sam was feeling a little lonely. He hoped to have a new buddy to play with. One day, while he was playing in the woods, he noticed something unusual. It was a little animal with glowing scales. Sam quietly walked over to the creature and said, "Hello! What's your title?" The creature grinned and replied Sam, "My name is Lily!" And so, Sam made a new friend. They spent the rest of the day talking together.
Sam was so happy to have found a new friend. He knew that he and Lily would be close buddies forever.
